What have you been feeding your mind lately? What are you consuming? Better yet, what’s consuming you?
I’ve been totally consumed, I mean swallowed whole and spit out by the books I’m about to share with you.
Well of course I’m going to start off with the Bible! The main squeeze! 💕 Before we dive into anything else, I have to recommend and emphasize reading the Bible. Whether you’ve read the entire collection of the books of the Bible, a few books, a few chapters, or a couple of verses; it will always be the first book that I endorse. God’s character, instruction, and wisdom is within the pages, and the way His word transforms and brings us to life is nothing short of amazing.
The essence of each book I’m suggesting aims to enrich your understanding and offer fresh insights into Biblical themes, ultimately deepening your relationship with God.
You’ll find all of them in my Amazon storefront.
If you’re not much of a reader or prefer to take things in small doses, consider trying out this 60-day devotional by Jackie Hill Perry—it could be exactly what you’re looking for. Upon Waking (as it’s named), is the best time to read a few pages and ponder upon what the author is relaying about God. I love the way she lays out her thoughts. The daily reads are down-to-earth and subtly poetic, yet they carry a significant weight, prompting us to think more about who God is and who we’re called to be. She addresses so many things that we face in our walk as Christians, with Biblical references and examples to back it all up, and it’s good.
C.S. Lewis does such an amazing job of explaining Christianity. If someone wanted to know about Christianity without picking up the Bible, I would throw this book at them. It’s a bit of an advanced read, because he’s British and this was published in the 50’s, but the author gives a profound and rational case for the Christian faith. He addresses thoughts and questions that we’ve all had at some point, and masterfully clarifies concepts that we may grasp intuitively but often struggle to describe and articulate. My book is entirely marked up with all kinds of post-it notes and highlighted sections; it had my brain fired UP about God, Christianity, and our nature as humans. It’s one of those books that you will want to continuously re-read because the insightful gems are overflowing.
Jackie Hill Perry delivers in her book Holier Than Thou! The premise of the book is the author basically saying, He ain’t like us. She highlights just how set apart He is; how He is in a league of His own and we would do well to remember that. She clears up clouded views we might have about Him, helping us to understand why we can wholly trust God. This book is deep, and her words and views on God are beautifully laid out and it has inspired an even deeper reverence for God.
This is one of the most unique books I’ve had the pleasure of reading. It’s narrated from the perspective of a devil writing to a demon tasked with capturing a human soul, and let me tell you, it’s fascinating! Delving into Satan’s viewpoint isn’t something we do often—it’s… unsettling. Personally, I’ve hesitated to explore it fully, because diving into what evil is and what it does is scary and I was afraid I might get trapped in that frame of mind! But C.S. Lewis bravely takes us there, shedding light on how the devil operates around us. Satan, with millennia of experience, is bent on our destruction, seeking to seal our fate in his own demise. Because his time is short, he’s mastered cunning strategies, often hidden in seemingly harmless appearances, to lure us in. It’s wild how he subtly distorts our thoughts and influences our culture, drawing us closer to him and hell. The grim reality of it all is expertly presented by C.S. Lewis.
Warning: If you’re not ready to have your mind blown, don’t read this book. If you’re not ready to become a prayer warrior, don’t read this book. Get ready to be SHOOK because this one will definitely change your perspective. What do you know about Satanism? Before reading this, I had very basic knowledge, but this book delves deep into what it’s all about and how it operates right under our noses every day. It follows two women, one of whom used to be a high priestess in a super secretive and rapidly growing Satanic cult (yep, the same one other authors have hinted at), and the other, a Christian woman who played a pivotal role in delivering her from the clutches of Satan. From exploring the human spirit to the spirit world, and uncovering the doorways we unknowingly open for Satan to wreak havoc in our lives, to strategies for spiritual warfare—it’s all laid out in this book.
