Life Update: I JUST GOT MARRIED!!!
On Sunday, March 3rd, I solidified my commitment to God by getting baptized!
Jesus and I have been going together for a minute now, and I just made a very public declaration about it, so I’m geeked. I’ve literally been telling everyone about how I just got married! What can I say? I’m smitten. We’ve gone through all of the stages: flirting, courting, exclusivity, and now matrimony. From the outside looking in, we moved fast. If you had come to me a year ago, or even 7 months ago, and said that I would be a faith-on-fire Christian, I might’ve laughed in disbelief, but when you know, you know! Let me give you a rundown of what the big day was like.
Pre-Wedding
There were no jitters; my feet were hot, and I was ready! Just before church service began I was flooded with emotions, struck by how much love and support surrounded me through the presence of family and friends. I flew my mom in, and the bulk of my family and close girlfriends in town showed up to cheer me on as I took this major step– as you can imagine, the tears were flowing. The gratitude I felt toward God and everyone around me was so moving. I could not stop thinking about how GOOD God is for blessing me with all the amazing people in my life and loving me so faithfully. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on how He has protected and preserved me—despite my being an unruly and disobedient child! He has so generously showered me with grace and has been paving the way for this day for a long time. So, I was excited to give my life over to God and publicly declare my devotion to Jesus.
Ceremony
When I say I made a very public declaration, I mean it. I was not expecting to be baptized before the entire mega-church, but that’s what happened. I figured the baptismal ceremonies would take place in a separate area from the church service, but maybe that’s normal? I don’t know. Regardless, it’s kind of incredible to have 100+ people cheering you on; that unexpected extra amount of love and support was very cool. Worship music filled the church, the water was warm, people were cheering, and I was born again. Owwwwwww!!!
Post-Wedding
And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. Galatians 3:27 NLT
New dress, new shoes, who dis? I’m brand new in Christ Jesus, mkay? Ha! Since I’ve pursued God and accepted Jesus, He has been doing work in me, and I’m genuinely thankful to be a part of this exclusive (but inclusive) members-only club. I’ve never felt as content and fulfilled as I do right now. I am inspired by the intricate unity and distinctiveness of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit— how they work together and how everything they do is to glorify each other. My baptism, the outward display of my affection and devotion to the Lord, is my public commitment to joining them and glorifying them with all I do. Amen.
